Festival: Fiesta de la Aceituna (Alozaina) When: Mid-September

    This is the starter gun.

In Alozaina, just down the road from us, they celebrate the Fiesta de la Aceituna. They are famous for the Aloreña—the only table olive in Spain with a protected designation.

These aren't the olives used for oil; these are the big, green, crunchy ones you eat with a beer. But for us, this festival signals that the clock is ticking.

    The "Green Gold" is ready.

The village celebrates the first pick of the season. It’s a chaotic mix of music, tastings, and competition to see who has grown the best fruit. It celebrates the "verdeo" (the green harvest).

For the Pedro family, it’s a warning. The table olives are done. The oil olives (our beloved Picual) are next. The quiet summer is over. The nets are coming out.

Get Ready: The new harvest is coming. Make sure your squeezy bottle is ready for the refill. La Tierra Manda.
